Move Beyond

Alcohol & Substance Dependence

Sound Familiar?

I’m sick & tired of being sick & tired.

Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired of your drinking or drug use? Have you tried to change how much you drink or use, but it’s just not working? Are you yearning for a life where you’re in control & actually like living your life?

Maybe you’ve…

got some recovery under your belt and are in a space to explore further?

Or maybe your loved one is struggling with alcohol and/or substance use and you’d like support on how to cope with the impact of their use?

Whether you’re just starting to reach out for support or are trying to access support again after disappointing experiences or relapse, we’re here to help.

We know how discouraging it can be to go at this recovery process alone.

So let’s not.

Because the truth is…

Drinking and using are often survival responses for something deeper – whether that’s trauma, pain, disengagement, or living in an unlivable world.

It’s not just about quitting.

It’s about addressing what’s beneath the surface.

Breaking free looks like

shifting your self-understanding, working through the experiences that causes you pain, understanding why and when you use, or taking direct action in developing more sustainable coping skills.

Our approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and years of experience. Our specialization in alcohol and substance use provides a space for you to explore your experiences and access recovery in a way that works for you.

How it works.

  1. Intake appointment. Call or email us to book a chat with a counsellor so we get a better sense of what you’re going through and which of our counsellors would be the best fit to support you.
  2. Assessment session. You and your counsellor collaboratively comes up with a plan to help you move towards your goals.
  3. Recovery Sessions. You and your counsellor begin the work towards your recovery!

Frequently
asked questions.

Yes! We are funded by Fraser Health to provide alcohol and/or substance use related counselling services and referrals free of charge. This includes abstinence, moderation, relapse prevention, referrals to treatment, and support for affected family members.

In your intake session, we’ll ask for some basic personal information such as your age, address, PHN and emergency contact. We’ll also ask about your current situation and goals for recovery. We get that trust takes time to build, so feel free to let us know any concerns you might have.

Perspectives at Fraserside follows the same confidentiality policies as with all counsellors regulated by the British Columbia Association for Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Your sessions are kept confidential unless the following criteria are met 1) you let us know that you are in imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, 2) if you let us know that a child is in danger of abuse and neglect, 3) if you are part of court processes that subpoena our files, and 4) if you request that we speak to another party on your behalf.

This depends what kind of support you’re looking for and what is clinically appropriate to make sure you’re supported in your goals. You can expect to start off with 12 sessions and your counsellor will connect with you around what further support can look like. Book an intake appointment with us to find out more!

We can help complete referrals to publicly funded recovery houses and treatment centers for individuals who live in Fraser Health or have no fixed address. We can also help submit an accommodation for fee subsidy form to see if you are eligible for public support with funding.

General factors when considering fit is based on the type of concern or goal you’re hoping to work on, any personality, gender, appointment timing and method preferences, as well as any other particular expertise our counsellors might have. While we cannot guarantee to meet all of your preferences, we do our best to make sure that you’re connected with the most appropriate counsellor for you.
